Who Am I

The story begins with a kid from Chicago who becomes a content strategist by chance. On his first day of work, his project manager tells him emphatically that “content strategy is the future.” His mission from that day forward was to realize this prophecy.

In a dramatic turn of events, he finds himself chasing the love of his life all the way to Austin, TX. Once he arrives, he meets an energetic dog named Hendrix who becomes his trusty companion through all his new Texan adventures, which include elegant home-cooked meals and evening skateboarding rides through the streets of Downtown Austin.

What I Believe

My career in content strategy pretty much boils down to three core ideas:

Content is Conversation - The current state of web content is like being at a party full of clones. They introduce themselves the same way and bring up the same boring conversation topics. The more you engage, the less interested you get. Good content brings life back to the party. It creates meaningful interactions between people with a mutually beneficial outcome.

Content Demands Structure - The more we add structure our content, the more meaning we create for both humans and computers. As much as I love grandma’s baked mac and cheese recipe that was scribbled on the back of a napkin in 1994, it would probably be more useful and memorable if each ingredient had a measurement and there was a clear, linear outline of the steps needed to produce that cheesy goodness.

Content = Purpose - What you say is as important as what you do. If your content projects with authority and confidence, people will stand behind it. Our goal is to create resonance with our audience, not ambiguity. Let’s give people a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
